Italian social number (codice fiscale)
You need the Codice Fiscale to sign any kind of contract: so for example if you want to work in Italy or sign an electricity agreement for your apartment you need it.
It has to be requested at the Ufficio Imposte Dirette of Milan , which you can find in:
- via Manini 27
- via della Moscova 2
You need to show these documents:
- Politecnico's Letter of Acceptance
- I.D. Card (or Passport for non-EU countries)
- Residence Permit (for non-EU countries)
Residence permit for studying
Especially if you come from a non-EU country, to be able to stay in Italy you have to request a residence permit. What you have to do is to go to an office called Questura, you can find one at the Police stations or at the following addresses in Milan :

You need to have with you:
- 4 pictures
- a stamp (in italian: marca da bollo) for the value of € 10,33
- valid passaport and copies of it
- letter of acceptance from Politecnico
- medical insurance (or E128-form for the EU-members)
